WiMAX Wireless and Satellite Network in Baghdad, Iraq
(Completed- March 2005)

The WiMAX Wireless network is integrated with the satellite network providing the IP connectivity to the enterprise and US government customers in Baghdad, Iraq.

The network provides wireless IP connectivity to any location within 10 Km. of the base station (Central Baghdad). The data rate can be shared among hundreds of users. There are total of 6 sectors per base station, each sector providing upto 11 Mbps, therefore total capacity of the wireless network is 66 Mbps. The bandwidth can be incrementally increased based on the customer’s requirement.

Sintelsat has integrated with the wireless network a satellite VSAT station to provide connectivity between the IP backbone in US/Europe to the wireless network in Baghdad. The network can be further expanded to cover a large number of remote base stations dispersed throughout the country providing regional coverage. Internet, voice and data connectivity is provided using the above IP network.

The wireless network uses 3.5 GHz license free Point to Multi-Point Wi-Max equipment using the 60 deg sectoral antennas. The network is capable of providing high speed connectivity to remote locations that can run multiple services including broadband internet, VoIP, VoD, remote video security and many other applications.

A billing system is also deployed using PRO Billing System that has been developed in-house and uses standard windows PC.
